He wiggles... He wobbles... He always comes back...
 
This vintage roly-poly clown was made in Western Germany by Rolly Toys sometime in the 1960s — but there's nothing playful left in his expression now. The colors are too bright, the grin too wide, the eyes too knowing. Push him, and he returns... always upright, always staring. He was designed to amuse children, but there's something unnatural about how he refuses to stay down.
 
His paint is chipped and worn like the mask of a performer who’s long overstayed his welcome. One half red, one half blue — a jester divided like the nation that made him.
 
We don’t know who first owned him, or why he was eventually discarded. We only know that since his arrival, he has never once stopped rocking and making that unnerving chime.
 
Marked "Made in Western Germany" — but somehow, he feels much older than that.
