Celebrate the intrigue of Victorian spiritualism with your own sample of ectoplasm from the American Society for Spiritual Research.
I created these bottles as a way to showcase one of the more fascinating gaffs used by psychic mediums throughout the late 1800s into the early 1900s. The word ectoplasm comes from the Greek ektos, meaning "outside" and plasma, meaning "something molded." It was a term coined by spiritualists in the late 1800s. Supposedly, mediums would secrete (or "exteriorize") ectoplasm during spirit communication sessions or séances. It was said to be a white, whispy gauze-like substance.
Each bottle is dated October 3, 1889, and contains a sample of "ectoplasm" from a séance conducted by the American Society for Spiritual Research. In order to achieve this effect, I used the same practical materials used by mediums and spiritualists more than 100 years ago.
For each purchase, you will receive one bottle.
