A sacred symbol rendered in the bold, glittering palette of early 20th-century Americana, this vintage chalkware crucifix likely dates to the 1930s or 1940s. Measuring approximately 7.5 inches tall, the piece features a striking blend of orange, gold, and deep blue—its colors still vivid after decades. Most impressively, the original silver glitter accents on Christ and the cross remain intact, catching the light like a strange, devotional relic from another world.

This crucifix wasn’t bought in a church gift shop. It was wontossed into the arms of a lucky fairgoer after a ring toss or high-striker success. From the 1910s through the 1950s, chalkware was the prize of choice at American carnivals and boardwalks. These fragile plaster figures, often religious or sentimental in theme, were mass-produced yet lovingly hand-painted, giving each piece its own character. They were cheap to make, easy to break, and oddly beloved—ephemeral trophies of summer nights and sideshow lights.

Condition: In remarkably preserved condition for a piece of its kind. Some minor edge wear and scuffing consistent with age, but no major chips or damage. Glitter remains unusually vibrant—an echo of its long-ago spotlight.

A haunting blend of faith and folk art, this crucifix is both devotional and decorative—a prize that speaks of belief, luck, and the strange holiness of the midway.
